Run the Red Light @ Tonic

Run the Red Light @ Tonic

SINCE being introduced to Vancouver’s very own “Run the Red Light” over six months ago now (well, just before the Olympics anyway), I’ve been dying to catch them do their thing LIVE on stage somewhere in town, and tonight I finally got that chance as they rocked “Tonic” on Granville Street in front of a couple of hundred enthusiastic fans and first-time listeners, who were lining up ready to catch the following band “TV Heart Attack”.

I’m already a HUGE fan of the lads (in fact I’d go so far as saying that their brilliant self-titled debut album is easily one of the top two most played albums on my iPod in 2010… along with The Black Keys), but I walked away from tonight’s energetic set respecting them even more, and scratching my head wondering how the hell they haven’t “made it” right across Canada & the US already. I mean, honestly!!!???!?!

Successfully marrying riff-driven rock with brit-pop in a style not unlike that of popular New Orleans band “Mutemath”, “Run the Red Light” reeled off a majority of the songs off their 7-track EP tonight, as well as perform a slick, brand new track (which I missed the name of), and closed their set off with a masterful cover of Sarah McLachlan’s “Possession” (see similar performance below).

In summary, all I can say is that “Run the Red Light” 100% lived up to my hopes and expectations as a LIVE act.

I’d love nothing more than to see these guys really take off in not only Canada, but also back home “Down Under”, so if you’re down there and reading this, please, please, please take the time to check out their sounds on their MySpace page, or even download their tracks and choose what you want to pay. It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Yet another Summer music goal ticked off! Sa-weet!
