The event kicked off in October 2006 – the brainchild of Canadian Ines Markeljevic, who:
“…began dancing, in front of the TV, at age 3 to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’.”
Back then, 62 participants took part and in doing so, set the first Guinness World Record for “Largest Thriller Dance.” Skip forward to last year, 2009, when 22,571 from 31 different nations performed simultaneously.
This year, raising money for Vancouver’s Food Bank ($3,000 was raised last year), hundreds of enthusiastic, ghoulish participants of all ages sporting a massive cross-section of torn, bloodied costumes turned up for the event. They shrugged off a little light rain to dance their way through Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in a choreographed performance that had reportedly been worked on since the start of the Fall.
My congrats go out to everyone involved in “Thrill The World Vancouver 2010″. It was a pretty slick event… “Bloody” great actually!
