#Musicmonday – #049

ONE of the great privileges of this little project of mine is the ability to, once in a while, stick exclusively to the amazing talent found within Australia.

It feels like we’re going through a bit of a “golden era” down here right now, spanning all genres, so this week’s selection is an all-Aussie affair.

For those of you “over the pond” in whatever direction, here’s your chance to sample some tracks that perhaps otherwise wouldn’t make their way to your shores. If you like what you hear, make sure you share them on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, whatever is your poison of choice.

Before we get started, this past Queen’s birthday long weekend also saw the big reveal of Australia’s music-loving-public’s favourite tracks from the past 20 years of the iconic “Triple J Hottest 100”. If you’d like to check out the count down for yourselves, I’ve once again conveniently set up playlists on both rdio and Spotify for you. Check em out.

1. “Mirrors” – Emma Louise

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

A darling of the Aussie music scene in over the past couple of years, Emma Louise’s debut album “Vs Head Vs Heart” is fantastic listening and well worth tracking down.

2. “Shades” – Tales in Space

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Self described as an “explosive collage of electro-dynamo-pomo-disco rock”, Sydney newcomers Tales in Space have released their debut single and it’s a cracker!

3. “Distant Dreaming” – Shining Bird

ILLAWARRA, AUSTRALIA

The debut track for Shining Bird is described as being “psychedelic Australiana”, whatever that equates to. All I know is, if this doesn’t make it onto this years Ministry of Sound “Chillout Sessions” compilation, then I’m a monkey’s uncle!

4. “Tell Me How It Ends” – Bernard Fanning

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

No doubt about it, former Powderfinger frontman and proud Brissie lad, Bernard Fanning has another hit solo effort on his hands with his album “Departures”, released last week. You need only look as far as the opening track. Here’s proof.

5. “Smoke Trails” – Jackie Onassis

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

I’m no big fan of “Hip Hop” – I’m sure that’s pretty evident if you look over the #MusicMonday archives. But once in a while, a beat-laden belter pops up that just gets stuck in my head. Just picture yourself by the pool, Mojito in hand, kicking back to the beats of “Smoke Trails” just loving life as the sun sets over another stunning Summer’s day. Yup. Love it.
