Brisbane “Ekka” 2013

Brisbane “Ekka” 2013

SO tell me… did you make it to the “Ekka” this year? Or did you, like me, save your hard-earned dollars for some other extravagance that easily represents better value for money?

Yup, it’s that time of year again when all our fine country folk breeze into town to display their fantastic skills and handy work across prize livestock, crafts, and more, amidst a sea of coloured lights, carnival rides and overpriced showbags filled with chocolate and flimsy “made-in-China” plastic doo-dads and thingamyjigs.

While I opted for perching myself on the edge of sideshow alley and observe from “the outside in” again this year, I did happen to notice that the number of rides and attractions appears to be somewhat dwindling. Interesting that this observation comes at a time when the price of adult tickets seem to have risen once again this year, and discount “After 5pm” tickets have mysteriously disappeared.

But anyway, it still looks all sparkly and spectacular from Bowen Bridge Road, a popular vantage spot for hobbyist shutterbugs looking to grab a few frames of the colour and movement of the people, rides and fireworks.

Great shots, as usual, Rob. Agree with you that the Ekka does seem to be shrinking, but still a lot of fun. X
