#Musicmonday – #061

MUSICMONDAY is a day late this week for good reason. The St Jerome’s Laneway Festival lineup was announced this morning, and that means it’s time, once again to take a look at five of the awesome acts that will make their way around Australia in early 2014.

Top of the must-see list for me will be the Scottish synth-pop trio Chvrches and Aussie indie-rockers Jagwar Ma, but there’s a smorgasboard of 30+ other up-and-coming international acts joining some of Australia’s best local talent for the festival which will take in 7 cities in 2014 from Adelaide, to Auckland, Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Singapore and Detroit!

Yup, what started as a wee little gathering in Caledonian Lane in Melbourne 10 years ago has become a truly global indie music event.

1. “Lies” – Chvrches

As luck would have it, Chvrches launch their debut album “The Bones of What You Believe” internationally today, giving us 14 tracks including the hits “The Mother We Share”, “Gun” and “Recover”.

2. “The Throw” – Jagwar Ma

Jagwar Ma have enjoyed a breakout year in Australia and the UK in 2013 and will be one of the most popular acts at Laneway in 2014.

3. “Play With Fire” – Vance Joy

It’s been a big year for Victorian Vance Joy finding success with both “Riptide” and more recently with this track, “Play With Fire”.

4. “Tennis Court” – Lorde

If there’s one lady who has made her mark on the music landscape both home and abroad in 2013 it’s 16 year-old Kiwi Lorde. If her hit single “Royals” hasn’t made its way inside your ears yet this year, then you’ve had your head buried somewhere. Fact.

5. “The Wire” – Haim

Laneway punters will be thrilled to have the three Haim sisters in attendance in 2014. Here’s one of the singles that have thrust them into the spotlight this year.
