#Musicmonday – #072

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! As promised, #MusicMonday is back in 2014! Yes, as the weeks roll by and the new music continues to roll out to the masses, I’ll be doing continuing to do my best to compile a list of 5 new tracks, each Monday, for your listening pleasure.

I was a little doubtful that there would be much new music to present immediately in 2014, but then some old favourites in the form of Chromeo, Bombay Bicycle Club and Silversun Pickups chimed in with some great new sounds, all presented below.

As was the case throughout 2013, I’ll be curating a number of playlists across the webs you can subscribe to so you can both stay up to date with new #MusicMonday selections, and revisit old ones. All the links you need for the new playlists are listed below today’s selections.

maseyFM now broadcasting!

Also new in 2014 is the launch of maseyFM, a streaming broadcast of tracks from the #MusicMonday archives and previews of songs coming up. The service is provided by the good folk at Grooveshark.

The real cool thing about this new broadcast is that you can get involved, from live chat to the ability to make suggestions of songs to add to the broadcast. So drop by, say hi and help me keep the great tunes rolling.

1. “Come Alive (ft. Toro y Moi)” – Chromeo

MONTREAL, CANADA

Canadian electro-funk duo Chromeo have kicked off the year with this disco drenched ditty and the announcement of a North American tour commencing in Houston, Texas in April.

2. “Luna” – Bombay Bicycle Club

LONDON, UK

Quite possibly my favourite new release of this past week comes from one of my favourite live acts from 2013 – Bombay Bicycle Club.

“Luna”, the second single from the band’s forthcoming new LP “So Long, See You Tomorrow” sees the introduction of the female vocals of Rae Morris who duets beautifully with lead Jack Steadman on this one.

Look out for the band’s new album, due to drop on February 3.

3. “Cannibal” – Silversun Pickups

LOS ANGELES – USA

Happily, the signature sound of LA’s alternative rockers, Silversun Pickups, returns in 2014 with this great new, dark, track, “Cannibal” featuring grinding bass and the kind of soaring chorus we’ve come to expect from these guys.

4. “Send The Night (Drexler Remix)” – The Walking Sticks

SILVER SPRING, USA

The remix of The Walking Sticks slick dream pop number “Send The Night” caught my ear this week after it’s electro-tweaking by Nashville-based producers Drexler, aka WRLDS.

5. “Out of The Black” – Royal Blood

BRIGHTON, UK

I wanted to toss a solid rock track in the mix for this first #MusicMonday in 2014 and this track from UK duo Royal Blood fits the bill nicely.

Gaining PLENTY of radio play on the J’s in the latter part of December last year, “Out Of The Black” is one hell of a way for the lads to announce their arrival on the scene. Full of heavy riffs and drum lines, its hard to believe that this is the work of only two blokes. Good stuff!
