#Musicmonday – #073

BEFORE we launch into the tunes this week, the set times for the upcoming Laneway Festival here in Brisbane were released this morning and I’m pretty pumped with who we’re going to be able to get around and see in a couple of week’s time.

With the exception of an annoying clash between the set times of Aussie acts Jagwar Ma and Cloud Control, it looks like a pretty sweet day!

2014 Brisbane Laneway Festival artist set times.

The other event of note earlier today was the closing of the voting period for this weekend, and Australia Day’s, Triple J Hottest 100 of 2013 count down. With over 1.4 million votes collated, it’s pretty obvious that there’s lots of interest out there which is further evidenced by the 3,000+ Hottest 100 parties already registered right across the world.

For those of you in Vancouver here’s where you can get in on the fun. Check out the respective venue websites for further details and local times:

And the rest of you around the world? Check out the party venue map available now on the Triple J website.

Oh, and check back here for a full run down of who made the world’s largest democratically decided annual music countdown, early next week.

1. “Transpose” – Bad Suns

LOS ANGELES, USA

With their “Transpose EP” due for release tomorrow, LA indie rockers Bad Suns landed on my radar today and are bound to go into my listening rotation this week.

120,000+ plays of their first couple of singles released on SoundCloud tends to suggest I’m not the only one.

2. “Australia (Don’t Ever Let Her Go)” – Satellite Stories

OULU, FINLAND

Perhaps this week’s most catchy tune from Finnish band Satellite Stories doubles as a cautionary tale about letting a loved one travel to Australia… and she doesn’t come back!

I may be a slight bit biased, but it happens a lot more than you might think. 😉

3. “Cry No More” – Vaults

LONDON, UK

Just as fellow Brits, London Grammar, did back at the end of 2012, Londoners Vaults have mysteriously appeared on the scene with this glockenspiel, yes glockenspiel, drenched beauty.

I’m a big fan of this one.

4. “Make It To Me” – Sam Smith

BISHOPS STORTFORD, UK

Sam Smith, the awesome voice of Disclosure’s monster hit “Latch” slows it down a tad with this sweet ballad that is getting plenty of airplay of late.

5. “White Line Fever” – Cari Cari

VIENNA, AUSTRIA

Rounding things off this week with “White Line Fever”, a surprisingly ballsy first offering from Austrian rock duo, Cari Cari.

I wonder what the likes of Strauss, Schubert and Mozart think about this one?
