#Musicmonday – #086

SO much great new music is being released right now I find myself in the unfamiliar position of having to pick which tracks to serve up to you today, and which ones to hold over until next time.

A good problem to have, believe me. Rest assured there are 5 equally great songs to those compiled and listed below, being loaded into masey.co for next week, as you are reading this. Make sure you come back to see what I have in store for you all.

Have a great week!

1. “Message” – Patrick James

I’ve been waiting somewhat anxiously for Patrick to officially release some of the new stuff I’ve been hearing and loving him play live over the past 6 months, after calling him out as one of my “breakout artists” for 2014.

A super talented, and down-to-earth bloke who deserves to have a big year!

2. “Not On Drugs” – Tove Lo

Proof that once again, my ears have an affinity to Swedish sounds, 26 year-old singer/songwriter Tove Lo included this great track on her debut EP “Truth Serum” which launched back in March.

The EP has been a regular in my rotation of tunes this year, and it’s high time I shone some light on one of the standout tracks.

3. “Coattails” – Broods

Without doubt, one of my favourite bands throughout the month of May has been New Zealand’s Broods.

Brother and sister duo Caleb and Georgia Nott have a stellar debut, self-titled EP out right now and it’s DEFINITELY one I would suggest checking out

4. “XO (Beyonce Cover)” – John Mayer

John Mayer covering Beyonce? Doesn’t sound like something I would usually include in #MusicMonday… but this is actually a pretty sweet stripped back version of a decent song that John has managed to record here.

From what I can tell, John first performed this live in Melbourne last month and received such good feedback that he went into the studio and has produced a polished version of the cover. It’s pure Mayer, and sometimes that can be a good thing.

Hat tip to @michd10 for the heads up on this one.

5. “Around Town” – The Kooks

Over the past weekend, the UK’s bestest, most awesome radio station, BBC Radio 1 held their “Big Weekend 2014” festival in Glasgow featuring the likes of Coldplay, Kings of Leon, London Grammar, Paolo Nutini and Kasabian.

One of the best performances for my mind was the choral-boosted performance of their latest single “Around Town” by London’s The Kooks.

Check out the video for this one to witness the performance for yourself.
