You know it, you love it. The clean, parallax enhanced iOS iphone lock screen. Wouldn't it be great if you could take this UI style and apply it to your locked OSX Mac screen saver, be it on a 27" wide screen iMac, or a smaller, portable Macbook?
I bet you know what I'm about to say next, right? YES! Now you can do just that, thanks to the hard work of Christian Heudens, based on some concepts conceived by designer Andrew Ambrosino.
To be truthful, I was a little sceptical. I figured installing such a sweet looking application like this was going to be complicated and probably not be impressive enough to warrant the trouble.
I WAS WRONG.
Christian's iOS-style screen saver is FANTASTIC! It literally only took me a few minutes to make the decision to run around and change all my desktops at work and home!
Here's what you need to do to get it all set up for yourself.
1. Download the screen saver installer
Head on over to Christian's project page where you can find the link to get your hands on the installer, and also some additional notes and tips for getting the best out of your locked desktop screen design.
2. Install the screen saver
Unzip and install the .saver file you downloaded and select if you want to install the screen saver for just your login or for all users of your Mac.
3. Tweak the screen saver settings.
To access the options screen for the screen saver, start by accessing your System Preferences dialogue and clicking on the "Desktop & Screen Saver" icon.
Scrolling to the bottom of the list of installed screen savers, you'll eventually find the newly installed "iOS Saver" option. Click it to access a preview of the current settings, and also to access the "Screen Saver Options..." button.
From here you can add your own designs (some starting options below) and tweak a few settings to obtain the perfect iOS-style screen saver for you.
Some wallpapers to get you started...
I had a quick look around wallpaperswide.com to find a selection of wallpapers that work well with the screen saver. This is what I came up with.
Each preview is linked to the site where you can download the wallpapers for yourself.
