In what will go down as one of the truly great comebacks in the club's, and indeed the AFL's history, my beloved, lowly placed, Brisbane Lions tonight turned around a 52pt deficit at three quarter time to get up and beat the second placed and highly fancied Geelong Cats.
To add to the fairytale, the winning kick was sent sailing home between the pipes from beyond the 50m arc and AFTER the final siren by 200-game milestoner Ash McGrath. The GABBA crowd of 24,000 was whipped into a frenzy unlike anything I've seen or been part of since the golden "three-peat" era of the early 2000's. Stunning!
There's only one way to really convey the nail-biting ending to the game, and that's to just relive the final 2 and a half minutes...
While the victory doesn't have too much of a bearing on the Lions' overall season and chances to play finals footy this season, it does hopefully prove to the lads that they CAN still mix it with the best teams in the competition now, a confidence and belief that will come in handy when they take on competition leaders Hawthorn, next week.
